Not a slice of life, but a piece of cake
Film 12: Midnight Cowboy

“I’m walking here! I’m walking here!”

This was a change from some of the films I’ve seen so far, as it seemed to embody a little bit more of the counter culture of the late 1960’s, in particular within the party scene that was reminiscent of an Andy Warhol Factory party. That being said, the story itself, even for the 60’s, seemed pretty out of the ordinary, as there aren’t many movies about Southern hustlers in New York. Funnily enough it is the only X-rated film ever to win best picture. This movie had great performances from both Jon Voigt and Dustin Hoffman. All in all, it was an interesting film with a different story, which was a nice change from conventional storytelling.

Verdict: Different film without the usual upright protagonists

Worthy of the Top 100: Yes

Next Film: “Gone With The Wind”, directed by Victor Fleming, 1939
